Fake news the other face of the Pandemic. Case: Ecuador
Main Article Content
Abstract
In a society like ours, the community of Internet users became a consumer, generator and distributor of content of various kinds. The mixture of a Covid-19 pandemic, mandatory confinement and the scant responsible handling of digital information contributed to the intensification of “fake news”.
Likewise, the flood of content on social platforms brought with it an “infodemic” reflected in various types of misinformation, including: exaggeration, decontextualization and deception.
The most used digital platforms for its dissemination are Facebook and WhatsApp. In the present work, 248 news items classified as false by the General Secretariat of Communication were analyzed, which corresponds to a probability sampling.
